what is restylane?

Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body, which provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane offers a number of solutions that vary, depending on the needs of the patient. Our Houston office is proud to offer both Restylane SILK and Restylane Lyft.

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid). NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. Restylane is a safe, natural formulation, so there are no delays for allergy testing prior to treatment. The simple procedure can be done by board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Rafi Bidros, during your lunch hour at his Houston office for immediate effects.

Restylane SILK is a great alternative for the nasolabial folds and the lips. It is one option offered by this outstanding line of fillers. Previously known as Perlane, Restylane Lyft is the latest member of the Restylane family and has been approved by the FDA for cheek augmentation, as well as to improve the appearance of the mid-face. Both Restylane  SILK and Resylane Lyft treates moderate to severe wrinkles and offers an immedately liquid facelift for patietns.

Am I A Candidate For Restylane?

Restylane treatments are great for any woman or man over the age of 21 who would like to rejuvenate their appearance. Since it has different formulas, your treatment plan will be individualized to suit your concerns and goals. Restylane may help you treat visible signs of aging, such as fine lines on your face, or increase the fullness in your cheeks and lips. It may also improve moderate to severe wrinkles, like frown lines, laugh lines, Crow's feet, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and more. Certain treatments contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, so you should disclose any known allergies at your consultation to prevent a reaction.

how does restylane work?

Restylane has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. However, it is currently indicated in the U.S. only for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, Dr. Bidros may anesthetize the treatment area.

How long does restylane last?

Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer. The unique NASHA technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone. Restylane has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because Restylane is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. There is virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.

what is Restylane Silk?

The newest addition to the facial rejuvenation market is Restylane Silk. Restylane Silk, a hyaluronic acid, is part of the Restylane family. It is FDA approved for use in and around the lips, to smooth fine lines around the mouth, and to enhance the lips. Restylane Silk differs from other hyaluronic acids in that it is made of smaller particles, making it the perfect option for your lips and lip lines.

how many restylane treatments do i need?

Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

what is the difference between Restylane and BOTOX?

Restylane is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, BOTOX is a drug that blocks nerve transmissions and relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

how is restylane different from other fillers?

Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane is non-animal-based. This quality virtually eliminates any risks of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. Restylane requires no pre-testing, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.
