Radiesse injectable wrinkle filler is the latest advancement in facial line reduction. Radiesse is made from calcium-based microspheres in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are a normal component of bone and teeth, which appears to have little or no risk of allergy when used as an implant. It is synthesized in microscopic spheres for use by injection in augmentation of soft tissue. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the larynx and other soft tissue areas. It has been used in Europe for the past few years as tissue fillers in the treatment of defects on the face: expression lines and scars. At his Houston office, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Rafi Bidros, is an expert at treating patients with Radiesse for cosmetic purposes.
Along with the face, the hands are the area of the skin that are most exposed to environmental damage and shows early signs of aging, including lines, wrinkles, and lost volume. Radiesse is the first dermal filler that is approved by the Food & Drug Administration (F.D.A.) to correct volume loss in the hands. The smooth microspheres of Radiesse provide natural looking and smooth results that usually last up to 1 year. Dr. Bidros has successfully used Radiesse to rejuvenate the appearance of his patients' hands and match the youthfulness of their face and body.

The procedure is performed using a small needle injection after the application of a local anesthetic. Dr. Bidros currently uses Radiesse for marionette lines (smile lines), folds around the mouth, pre-jowl, and chin wrinkles. Since a local anesthetic is used, most patients feel no pain or discomfort.
Substantial correction will be seen on the day of the procedure due to injection of the material itself. The permanent effects of Radiesse occur over the next few months as the patient’s skin produces more of its own collagen. Considered a semi-permanent filer, Radiesse is clinically proven to last a year or more.

Studies suggest that the microspheres in Radiesse disappear over the years, leaving the patient’s collagen as a more or less permanent effect. Touch-up treatments may be required. Most patients schedule treatments once a year to maintain their results.
More About Radiesse?
Radiesse dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Made of Hydroxylapatite, a mineral compound found naturally as a part of human bone, Radiesse is recommended to fill deeper creases such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines, as well as to enhance fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours.
Before My Treatment?
When you schedule your consultation for a wrinkle treatment, please ask about our recommendations to prepare for the procedure. This includes avoiding aspirin and ibuprofen. It is best for the body if you stop smoking before the procedure and remain well hydrated.
